Floating Homes Tour 2012
Saturday, September 22, 2012
11am – 4pm
This year around 15 colorful floating homes will open their doors to visitors on Saturday, September 22nd. The self-guided tour takes visitors inside some of the most fun and unique homes in the world. Docents will be on-board to describe the incredible waterfront lifestyle and answer questions.
In addition to the tour there will be free musical entertainment and an Art Show, provided by local musicians and artists on the Kappas Green. Excellent food and drinks will available for purchase.
Ticket prices are $35 for advance purchase and $40 at the door. The tour often sells out so we suggest buying tickets in advance. We welcome everyone to come enjoy this peek into the unique floating home life!

Tour Volunteers Needed
It takes more than 220 volunteers on that Saturday, or during the days before, to staff this event. All are welcome, residents or not. If you know of someone who loves or is fascinated by floating homes, please let them know we would welcome their help.
Each volunteer will receive a special pass to visit any and all homes on the Tour and also to attend the great “after party”.
To volunteer for a specific position, to put your name on the list to be assigned to a position, or to ask any questions, please contact Volunteer Coordinator Lynn Lester by email at (llester@earthlink.net), or by phone at 415 332-4678 (before 9:00 pm, please). Please specify the position you would like, if known, and the shift you prefer. Also let us know if you have any physical limitations. On any message (phone or email), please be sure to note your current contact information -- full name, address, best phone number to reach you, and your email address.
Here is the basic information for volunteers:
- When: September 22, 2012.
- Morning Shift 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
- Afternoon Shift 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
- ‘Tweener Shift" 12:00 to 2:00 PM for a few positions only.
- Who: Anyone who can give 3-4 hours of time.
Positions available are:
- Docents and Ramp Monitors for each
- Tour Boat
Bus Greeters
Set-Up Crew
- Garbage Crew
Water Crew
Safety Monitors
- Registration
- Traffic Control
Alternates, and Tear Down/Clean Up Crew
Note: If needed, docents and ramp monitors for each tour boat will be swapping positions during the shift to alleviate sun stress. A special position called “Alternate” fills positions that are still vacant at tour time, or if an assigned volunteer is unable to serve. The Alternates need to be available to do anything and yet may wind up doing nothing; they are basically on standby and have all the volunteer perks and privileges, even if they are not used in a position on the day of the Tour.
