| This
showplace houseboat is in a prime location at the end of South Forty
Pier. It has a long history - originally built in 1910 by Carlton
Philbrook. Ruth and Sim Van Der Ryn have owned it since 1983, when
they purchased it from well-known Sausalito resident, historian and
cartoonist Phil Frank and his wife.
The Franks had lovingly restored the boat over a
period of years. This is a large and classy, beautifully furnished
floating home with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in a total of 2000
square feet of living space.
In 1998, architect/owner Van Der Ryn had a new
concrete barge installed, raising the boat enough to add another lower
floor with substantial headroom. A major remodel was also undertaken
at that time, including a spectacular new kitchen with bamboo floors.
A scrapbook about this boat's fascinating history,
put together by Phil Frank, was on the coffee table during the tour.
