BULLARR.BMP (1234 bytes)1A South Forty Pier - The Becky Thatcher

This piling-based ark is loaded with character and history. It was originally built in 1903 as a floating ark in Tiburon/Belvedere, then it was moved to Corte Madera as a floating home, and finally it was moved to Sausalito in the 1960's where it was placed on pilings, making it officially an ark. It was rebuilt and renovated in the 1970's.

As you enter through the rustic gate, you get the feeling you have entered a secret garden, which is a charming deck leading to the nostalgic interior. As you step back three to four decades in time, you see a charming space with one bedroom, one bath, a wood stove and loads of soul.

Owner Joe Tate, one of the true Sausalito houseboat pioneers, starred in the vintage film, "The Last Free Ride" about the origins of the Sausalito houseboat community. Copies of the video were available aboard the Becky Thatcher on the day of the tour.
